Biography

Meret Louisa Vogel (b. 2004) is a versatile and highly awarded flutist with extensive experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. She captivates audiences with her charismatic stage presence, technical mastery, and genre-spanning approach. Her musical journey began at the age of five at the Konservatorium Rostock under the guidance of Sabine Franz, who taught her continuously until 2023. At the same time, she received intensive support through the Young Academy Rostock, an international center for early musical development, and pursued a pre-college program at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock from 2020 to 2023. Since October 2023, she has been studying at the Universität der Künste Berlin in the class of Prof. Christina Fassbender. She has received additional artistic inspiration through masterclasses with renowned teachers such as Prof. Andrea Lieberknecht, Prof. Mario Caroli, Prof. Stephanie Winker, Carin Levine, Jelka Weber, and Benjamin Plag. Her artistic achievements have been recognised at numerous prestigious competitions. In January 2026, her wind quintet 5um3 was awarded First Prize as well as the Freunde Junger Musiker Deutschland Prize at the renowned Felix Mendelssohn University Competition. She has also received international recognition, including First Prize at the 3rd Ferdinand W. Neess International Flute Competition in Wiesbaden (2026), First Prize at the 21st Friedrich Kuhlau International Flute Competition with the flute quartet Ventus (2025), Third Prize at the 14th Dutch International Flute Competition (2024), and First Prize at the online competition of the German Flute Society (2021). From an early age, she consistently received First Prizes in both solo and chamber music categories at Jugend musiziert, Germany’s national youth music competition. She has also been awarded numerous special prizes, including the Harald Genzmer Foundation Prize for the Best Interpretation of a Work of Classical Modernism at the Wochenende der Sonderpreise in 2022. She made her orchestral debut as a soloist in 2016 at the age of twelve with the string orchestra of the Konservatorium Rostock. This was followed by further solo appearances with the Jugendsinfonieorchester Rostock (2021), the Neubrandenburger Philharmonie (2021, 2022), and the Lüneburger Bachorchester (2023, 2025). A work of particular significance in her solo repertoire is House Music for Flute and Orchestra by Australian composer Matthew Hindson. In 2023, she gave the German premiere of the concerto with the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Nicholas Milton. The performance was met with critical acclaim and led to further engagements featuring the concerto, including return performances with the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra (2023, 2025), as well as performances with the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra (2025) and the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra in Sydney (2026). Meret Louisa Vogel also has extensive orchestral experience. From 2021 to 2023 she was a member of the German National Youth Orchestra (Bundesjugendorchester), where she performed in major European concert halls under distinguished conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Marc Albrecht, and Christoph Altstaedt. Since October 2023 she has regularly participated in projects with the Orchestra of the Berlin University of the Arts. In the summer of 2025 she served as principal flute in the orchestra of the Tyrolean Festival Erl. She has also appeared as an orchestral substitute with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock and the Neubrandenburger Philharmonie. International orchestral projects such as the European Youth Orchestra Academy and the Young Orchestra Riga–Rostock further complement her broad musical profile. Her interest in innovative ideas and new concert formats is reflected in her participation in unusual ensemble projects. For example, as part of the Campus Project of the Beethovenfest Bonn 2025, Meret Louisa Vogel travelled to Nigeria together with other alumni of the German National Youth Orchestra to collaborate with local musicians, combining classical music with Afrobeat, a genre widely popular in Nigeria. Her artistic achievements have also been recognised through numerous scholarships and grants. Most recently, she was awarded a scholarship by the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe. Since January 2025, she has been a scholarship holder of Live Music Now Berlin. In addition, she has been supported on several occasions by the Claudia Hoffmann Memorial Foundation.
