Awarded first prize (the Mendelssohn Prize) at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition in January 2026, the woodwind quintet "5um3" is among the most promising young chamber music ensembles of its generation. The ensemble has already performed at the Konzerthaus Berlin as part of the prize-winners' concert. The "Prize of the Friends of Young Musicians Germany" will also enable the ensemble to give concerts in eight German cities during 2026 and 2027. The quintet was founded in the spring of 2025 and consists of Meret Louisa Vogel (flute), Jiyeon Noh (oboe), Una Weske (horn), Annika Koll (bassoon), and Max Godinic (clarinet). They are all students at the Berlin University of the Arts. At the heart of their collaborative work lies an intensive exploration of the diverse repertoire for woodwind quintet – from classical works to contemporary compositions. The ensemble receives artistic inspiration through collaborations with professors at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) and through joint participation in masterclasses. In this way, the ensemble continuously refines its interplay and develops a shared sonic vision.
